Last night, during the debate on the inclusion of an emergency item into the agenda of the 148th Assembly of the Inter Parliamentaty Union taking place in Geneva, the Senate President and leader of the Nigerian delegation, HE Godswill Akpabio, made an emotional plea for the inclusion of a resolution on the war in Gaza.

Acknowledging a failure to achieve this at the 147th session in Angola, he urged the present assembly to take into consideration the innocent children who are facing inhumane conditions including lack of food and water, infections from injuries, and even death.

The Senate President also drew the attention of the gathering to the fact that the eyes of the world were on them, in anticipation of a resolution that would nudge the warring parties towards the path of peace.

He pleaed for all members to put aside their egos and individual differences and work collectively towards drafting a resolution that would lead to a ceasefire, provide access to humanitarian aid for residents of the Gaza, as well as the release of hostages.

This, he argued, would set the stage for the next round of talks which would hopefully lead to negotiations for the attainment of sustainable peace.
